Extra long black screen pre- and post-UAC
Alright so I have been looking for a soloution for this, but all I can seem to find is 'this is a security thing, you can disable it but it makes it less secure'.
What I'm experiencing, as it says in the title, is a 20 second or so black screen before and after each time User Account Control pops up. I don't wish to turn off UAC or Secure desktop (which I'm sure you techies will know is why it turns black), but simply make the waiting time on the black screen less... I use Vista Home Premium with service pack 2, if that helps at all. I think it may be related to or the same problem that I have with my login screen after waking up from sleep mode (it loads everything, the cursor works but it takes an extra minute or so for the password to be able to be typed in because the dot characters freeze in the password bar) - but if not, can anyone help me with this as well? |

Re: Extra long black screen pre- and post-UAC
you could use tweak-uac, it as a quiet mode which leaves uac on but does away with the black screen http://www.tweak-uac.com/home/

Re: Extra long black screen pre- and post-UAC
This is most likely caused by your video card. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Hope it helps.

If I uninstall the video card driver won't my screen not work? Also, how do I find what driver I'm using and how do I download and install it again? Many thanks for the help may I say |

Re: Extra long black screen pre- and post-UAC
Vista has legacy video drivers from the days of DOS - vga.sys & vgasave.sys. If you un-install the video card, it will look like safemode. Simply re-boot; Vista will re-install the driver upon system re-boot.

Re: Extra long black screen pre- and post-UAC
Thanks so much for your help Jcgriff! No more 10-minute long waits upon waking or spending ages when doing lots of stuff that require UAC!
