Windows 7: Boot Loader wrong default OS

Hi I installed Windows 7 on my netbook. That was difficult as it had no DVD drive and I had to boot from USB. In the end the old XP is gone and I have a working Windows 7.

There is only one problem remaining. When I bood the bootloader offer Windows 7 and XP... XP is the default choice but as there is no XP that ends with a BSOD. How can I either change the default to Windows 7 or remove the bootloader completely as I only want to run Windows 7.

P.S. In the Advanced Settings under System it shows me that Windows 7 IS the default and only option...which is strange...anyone have an idea here? thx

Re: Windows 7: Boot Loader wrong default OS

From within W7 goto a command prompt and type this
bcdedit <enter>

Then please post back with the results.

Re: Windows 7: Boot Loader wrong default OS

Ok that looks normal.
Now try this
Goto start|run and type
msconfig <enter>
Then go to the boot tab
Does it show the 2 boot options?
If so make the W7 option the default.
Then reboot to be certain that it starts.
You should then be able to delete the Xp entry.

Download and install EasyBCD: http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1

Once it's installed and running, click the Add/Remove Entries button, select your XP entry and click Delete then Save. You should be all set.

Re: Windows 7: Boot Loader wrong default OS

well it did the msconfig...only 1 system under boot choice listed which is Windows 7. I set this to be the default choice.

On re-boot, It still showed XP and Windows 7, with XP being the default

I do not dare to delete the XP part now with the tool advised, as I am afraid I could end up with a dead system..again...

Or do yo feel I can now comfoirtably delete the XP boor option with EasyBCD?

Axel

Re: Windows 7: Boot Loader wrong default OS

I just checked and EasyBCD does not even list XP as an option to delete!

Now I am stuck...
