New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys
I have a brand new 8400GS and after a few seconds or even up to half a minute of rendering 3d my computer blue screens pointing the problem at nvlddmkm.sys I have tried all of the different Windows 7 drivers for this card and i have been using driver sweeper and have been restarting between each unistallation and after each installation i have tried all of the fixes i have found on this forum for my problem and none seem to work.

My specs are as follow
I have a 660 watt power supply in an open thermaltake armor case so i have no ventilation problems
RAM 3gig DDR2
CPU AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+
M/B asrock am2v890-vsta

the only other peripherals i have hooked up to my PSU are 2 sata hard drives and 1 IDE dvd burner so i know im not low on power

any suggestions?

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

How long ago did you install Windows 7?

Did you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor? --> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I would suspect the bugcheck may be 0x116 or 0x117 and there are probably "Live Kernel Events" somewhere as well.... but we'll see.

Please gather system information... easy to do --> http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

Attach the resulting zip(s) to your next post.

What is this in particular, please --> " rendering 3d "

Regards. . .

Rendering 3d as in, as soon as I actually get into a game environment or even the small display rendering on the nvidia control panel

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

OK... thanks.

I knew that I saw it somewhere. I have NVIDIA 9600M GT on this laptop, yet never got too far in the NVIDIA ctrl panel. I don't have much use for 'rendering 3d' as you as I process memory dumps.

My rendering 3d is set to 'let the app decide', so its possible it has been used by the kids using this laptop; not sure.

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

Where are you getting your drivers from?? They are not signed. Signed drivers are not required for Windows 7 x86, but it is highly unusual to find unsigned NVIDIA drivers.

Not to mention unsigned Conexant audio drivers as well.... and ones that appear to have XP markings on them
Code:
Display Tab 1: The file nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll,nvwgf2um.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 1: The file cmudax3.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 2: The file cmudax3.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.
          Input Tab: No problems found.

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

the latest unsigned ones are the latest beta drivers, the rest were signed

ive tried several different drivers, all from nvidia.com

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

Not a huge surprise here - the bugchecks from the BSODs are in fact 0x116 - TDR video timeout = your video adapter was unable to reset itself in the alloted time (30000ms = 30 secs)

I see no Windows Updates in this 11 October Windows 7 installation... yet the NT Kernel is unrecognizable by the MSDL symbol site and has a timestamp on it of a few days post-all other Windows 7 drivers - I am unfamiliar with its version -
Code:
 nt ntkrnlpa.exe Wed Jul 22 23:04:46 2009 (4A67FD7E)

These OmniVision USB Camera kernel mode drivers should be nowhere near a 2009 Windows 7 installation -
Code:
ov519cmd.sys Thu Aug 29 17:09:39 2002 (3D6EB7C3)
ov519vid.sys Tue Feb 25 15:05:52 2003 (3E5BF6D0)
`

Did you run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor as I suggested?

My System

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

As you have found, the Windows 7 Upgrade advisor may very well come back and tell you that a hardware device is not compatible with Windows 7 - yet that item alone may very well work. In this case, I suspect that the upgrade advisor is telling you that the 2002/3 camera device failed the compatibility test because if used with other system devices -- a conflict will ensue. I think the eye-toy camera is conflicting with NVIDIA, making NVIDIA look guilty, when it is not.

I'm sorry, but I see no fix here - at least not the way you would like. You have a device with the 'latest' drivers which happen to be from 2002/3 - probably written for Windows 2000 or possibly XP or an early XP Service Pack. Windows 7 rules & regulations were not around then. When you think about it, those drivers were written at a time when XP was newer in the market place than Vista is right now.

The eye-toy camera with its 2002/3 drivers is trying to communicate with the kernel of a brand new 2009 Windows 7 OS and it is not working out. Most likely the 2002 drivers are using static memory address and causing NVIDIA, which "owns" the right to those memory addresses, a ton of grief. You have this new system, I would suggest that it is time to retire the 7 year-old eye-toy camera.

One very easy way to find out - un-install all software & drivers related to the eye-cam and see if BSODs or Live Kernel Events persist.

Re: New 8400GS BSOD nvlddmkm.sys

Did you disable the cam device?

Run the Driver Verifier- if this is software related and all other drivers updated, it should help find the rogue driver -
