Win7 Boots to blank Desktop Wallpaper
Hey, I am trying to install Windows 7 x64 over Windows XP Pro SP2 x32. When I boot with the Windows 7 CD, it says "Windows is loading files" then it stops and goes to a blank windows 7 desktop background with a large cursor. Completely skips the steps that ask for timezone etc, and has no function ability. Any ideas?

Re: Win7 Boots to blank Desktop Wallpaper
On the blank desktop have you checked that explorer.exe is running?
CTRL+Shitf+Esc and then click the processes tab and check explorer.exe is running, if not then click file >> New Task (run.....) >> in the run box type explorer.exe and click OK Regards, JDobbsy1987 |

Re: Win7 Boots to blank Desktop Wallpaper
windows 7 upgrade from x32 to x64 is not supported, you have to ugrade x32 to x32 or x64 to x64. and if i'm not mistaken you can only do a clean install from a xp platform.

Re: Win7 Boots to blank Desktop Wallpaper
Be sure that you have found x64 drivers for all devices.
Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try Windows 7 installation again. KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn - ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download jcgriff2 . |
