Windows 7 upgrade?
Hi,
I have a Toshiba A215 laptop, currently with windows Vista Home Premium. I have the option to get Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $30. I have had Windows 7 beta on this laptop before and used it lightly without any issues. Maybe just with the wireless card driver, it is an internal usb card, which caused some problems, but I don't remember if it did for windows 7 (I also tested a few other OS so I don't remember which gave the problem) As it stands, my vista needs to be re-done anyway, and since it was so cheap to get windows 7, i was thinking of just doing a fresh installe of that instead. I would need windows 7 to be fairly decent as this laptop is used for school and in class. Which also means I need the wireless to work. Im looking for opinions on if I should upgrade. I'm also thinking if I should go with a 62 bit version of 7, but I doubt I can get the wireless driver for it and a few others. Also I don't know how well software designed for a 32 bit OS would work on a 62 bit, and I only have 32 bit stuff. So I'm just thinking I won't even bother, but if anyone knows if it would work for me, I would get it. Thank you. |

Re: Windows 7 upgrade?
Go for it.
If vista worked on this laptop you will find that Win7 will be better in all ways. Find the make and model of your network card and google it (include win7 driver in your search parameters) If there is no Win7 driver the Vista one usually works. Stick with 32 bit as this is for school use you don't want problems with software unless you NEED 64 bit for important school software.

Re: Windows 7 upgrade?
Thank you.
I will give a look and see if toshiba updated any of their drivers for my laptop. So I guess I will just order it later. Also, just so I'm 100% clear, when you buy the upgrade, it just transfers the current license for the OS (my case Vista) into a lisence for windows 7 and you aren't supose to use that copy of Vista anymore? |

Re: Windows 7 upgrade?
I just checked toshibas download section and there is a lot of the drivers for windows 7 (32 and 64, but more for 32) so it should go fairly easily.
I was thinking about dual booting windows 7 and vista and I do already have a separate formated partition right now. |
