Windows 7 Family Pack
My question is about the windows 7 family pack...I know there are three licenses included with it and can be pre-ordered for $150. I have ordered windows 7 home premium upgrade months ago (1 license for $50.) I have three computers that are capable of running 7. Two of those had come installed with vista and the other was one that I built. I need to know if the family pack are upgrade or full version licenses. I need 2 upgrades and one full version, but obviously would take all three being full versions. I am a little clueless on this and the people at all the local tech stores did not know.
Also on a side note, What does anyone know about windows 7 starter or basic edition. What are the sys. requirements for it, where can i get it (have not seen it advertised), how much is it... Any help would be great! Last edited by PCJunkieDoug; 10-18-2009 at 08:23 PM. |

Re: Windows 7 Family Pack
Looks to be the Full Retail version . . but you should be able to upgrade with it.

Re: Windows 7 Family Pack
It says it's the upgrade.
Do they just give you one disk and three licenses? What if one person of three family members is not living in the household any longer and wants to use the disk? |

Look in the upper left corner of the box. Don't know if it's one disk or three though.

Re: Windows 7 Family Pack
well i found out that i can not do a clean install, it is indeed an UPGRADE. Instead, i am looking into the system builder package. it is the cheapest way to get the full install...but from what i am reading the license will only work on the one original comp. that you install it on. I am able to comply with that. Is there anything else that I should know.?.?

Re: Windows 7 Family Pack
While the upgrade disks require an activated previous version of Windows to be installed, you should still be able to do a Clean Install. Just choose Custom instead of Upgrade. It doesn't format the partition, but it will place the old files into a Windows.old folder and then do a Clean Install.
I don't know what if anything it leaves behind. Going to test that today actually, but will be using a Full Install image, as MSDN doesn't have upgrade versions, but it should be the same. Hopefully someone else has actually used one of the Upgrade disks and can confirm this. Follow the steps under Upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 in this Technet Article
