Frequent disconnects which require restart

For over a month now, at random points throughout the day my internet goes from working great to "Unidentified network: Local Only". I have tried MANY things and searched many forums to find the fix to this, and nothing stops it from disconnecting time and time again. To get the connection back, I have to restart the laptop. Nothing else works, I've tried resetting and renewing the IP address, disabling QoS and Ipv6, using a different modem, trying to connect through ethernet as well as wi-fi, resetting winsock dhcp, and it all ends up the same. Note that it is not my router, as my PS3 has no such problem, I can play online with it all day. I find it hard to believe that it would be my network card, as both ethernet and wi-fi react the same, I re-installed vista around 2 months ago, and it worked fine for a good while. I've tried restoring to previous dates, which changes nothing, and could try another full restore though I don't know what I could do differently to prevent this, as I don't think I've accumulated any viruses.
I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit edition on a Dell Vostro. ANY help with this is much appreciated, as I usually have no problems solving network issues, but this has me stumped.

Wow, this forum is far from the number 1 on the internet for technical support. That claim is completely untried and untrue. For anyone that might be searching for this same problem, it has been over 12 hours now that I've stayed connected after installing Vista Service Pack 1 and the new network drivers that came out yesterday.

Re: Frequent disconnects which require restart

It sounds like you may have found the answer with the SP and new drivers.

Something that I do because I turn the internet on and off alot for various reasons.
Goto control panel|networks|manage network connections and right click your connection and make a shortcut of it and drag it to the desktop.
Then you can right click the icon and will have access to the enable and disable options
for your connection.
I do this for times when I want to turn everything off for gaming and dont want a connection with the AV and other protections turned off.
But in your case it may be easier to refresh the connection than to reboot to refresh it.

Let us know if the SP and new drivers dont fix it and we will try to help more.
