Problem booting PC after standby

Hello

I have had a series of serious problems today, ending in that I cannot boot my PC at all anymore.
  1. My Vista began to behave somehow strangely
  2. I decided to shutdown Vista, closed all programs and hit Start->Shutdown
  3. Everything except the background image disappeared, but the background would stay like this for minutes
  4. Then it went into "Logging off". It would not change from there anymore
  5. So I tried to turn off by pressing the power button
  6. Windows went into Standby
  7. I woke it up again.
  8. It went to the "Logging off" screen.
  9. I tried to turn it off hard (pressing power button during several seconds), but as soon as I touched the button, it went to stand by again.
  10. I tried once more. During pressing the button, it woke up, then it powered off (probably during restoring from standby?)
  11. Now, when I hit the button again in order to start it, no BIOS or anything appears. There is some sound in the case, but it will not boot up.

Since it does not even enter the BIOS, I also failed booting from CD (was hoping I could restore it this way...).

Some technical data:

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate (SP: ?? No way to find that out without booting it...)
Model: Dell Vostro 220
CPU: Pentium (R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50 GHz

I could imagine that I powered the PC off during waking up, and that it is in some dirty state now when I start it, so it tries to wake up instead of booting the BIOS. Is there a way to circumvent this?

Thx, chiccodoro

Re: Problem booting PC after standby

hi you could try reseting the bios either using the jumper on the mobo or by taking out the cmos battery and see if that will then allow you to boot.

Re: Problem booting PC after standby

Hello joeten, hello all

It was that simple!

I switched my monitor's input channel to analog, and back to digital again (I have a digital port), and - tataa - there was the windows login screen.

It seems that the DVI output is not reactivated after a standby, or something in that direction.

Thank you anyway for your assistance...
