Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working
Hi,
I have been having a problem attempting to update my computer. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x-41 Tablet running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have been trying to install the following update: "Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86" The update downloads and after waiting for around 15-20 minutes while the computer appears to be working and installing the update, a window opens that states "Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working." It gives me the option to "Check online for a solution (recommended)" or "close." There is also a tab to see the problem details. Here are the problem details: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: TrustedInstaller.exe Application Version: 6.0.6000.16609 Application Timestamp: 4757584b Fault Module Name: wcp.dll Fault Module Version: 6.0.6000.16649 Fault Module Timestamp: 47cf7916 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000d1b9b OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: bdaa Additional Information 2: 0b34a66d748b65ca1821a9e94445f43f Additional Information 3: 349a Additional Information 4: cdd68c7dfab8687946194a872c49c727 When I click "check online for a solution" A Window appears stating the following: Code:
"Download updates for Windows Your computer might be missing updates that can help improve its stability and security. Go online to check for and install Important updates. Click to go online to the Windows Update website. In the left pane, click Check for updates. If any updates are found, click View available updates. Select all Important updates, and then click Install. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Note If you have turned on automatic updating, you might not see any Important updates listed. If this is the case, the updates have already been downloaded to your computer. Additional information To learn more about updating your computer, go to the Microsoft website and read the following article: Windows Update Frequently Asked Questions" To me this appears to be an incredibly annoying circle of trying to install updates that cant install and the only way to solve the problem is to install these uninstallable updates. Please help! Last edited by jcgriff2; 09-22-2009 at 07:20 AM. |

Re: Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working
Thanks for the suggestion jcgriff2.
I am not sure if I did this right but I went through the Windows Task Manager to the Services tab. I did not noticed anything in there, they are either listed as stopped or running. I also clicked the Services button located within the tab. I noticed there were a few services disabled, one being the .net something or other. I enabled anything that was disabled but the install still failed. What should the services be set to? Should they all be automatic? This is really getting on my nerves. I have been trying to figure this out for three weeks now. Until I get this update installed I cant use certain software on my computer. Any help suggestions is very much appreciated. |

Re: Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working
OK so I went through msconfig this time. All of my services are enabled and I turned off the selective startup I had set.
Still the installation did not work. When installing the bar with fill about 30% of the way up and then the error message appears stating the windows modules installer has encountered an error and needs to close. Someone please help... Last edited by mikb261; 09-24-2009 at 10:08 PM. |
