Start Menu Programs Gone
So earlier my computer ran a chkdsk (it prompts me to do this everytime it reboots, and usually when i let it run it freezes halfway through, so now i just try and cancel it, but sometimes im too slow) and unlike all the other times, it started messing with a whole bunch of files today, doing stuff i havent seen it do before. then i log in, and my program list in the start menu is almost completely empty, as well as my recent program list. The programs are still there, they werent deleted. They are also still in the start menu folder, but they do not appear in the program list anymore. Please help :)

Re: Start Menu Programs Gone
I had something similar happen with my start menu when I hooked up a new DVI Cable. I was getting two screen and I guess rebooting and restarting and all the cold starts messed with my system and I ended up doing a system restore which didn't work. Go into your "msconfig" in the search bar and try a normal boot if you don't already have that checked off and see what happens.

Re: Start Menu Programs Gone

Re: Start Menu Programs Gone
well thanks everyone, i figured at this point in my technical experience that problems that could just be fixed by rebooting were behind me. guess not :) - yeah the restart fixed everything, cant believe i had "reformat" ahead of "reboot" on my mental list of fixes.

Re: Start Menu Programs Gone
So what was it that fixed the problem??? Did the normal boot do it?

Re: Start Menu Programs Gone
Hi, you said in your initial post that chkdsk will run on every reboot is this still the case? If so you have problems that are soon to surface OR did resetting Msconfig to "Normal boot" also stop the chkdsk?
