First time Blue Screen of Death victim, please help

My brother just recently got the blue screen of death on his computer, but it only happened once. The problem now is that he starts up his computer, and is greeted with a message that says "Windows can not start" and "No hard disk to be found". I'm sorry about being so loose on the info but he doesn't know much about computers and this issue puzzles me as well. Please help, he is running Vista.

Sounds like either a bad hard drive of some BIOS settings messed up. What motherboard are you using? If it's a laptop, I'll just need the model number.
