Media test failure, check cable arrhhhhh!!!!!

Hi,

Can anybody please help with the following problem?

I have recently bought an acer 2920, it has a problem with crashing especially when I use windows media player, althougth it has had this problem on other occassions.

firstly an error message will appear which i do not usually have time too read, the the following message then appears:

Broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v 10.0.8

Broadcom Base Code Pxe-2.1 v 1.0.7

PXE-M0F: exiting broadcom PXE rom

operating system not found

I've google this and come across some solutions on the net including some on this site, but, most of them relate to start up issues, so my main querie is if i should follow the same advice or solve the problem in another way.

(my knowledge of computers pretty much boilds down to ctrl + alt + delete!!!)

Thanks very much,

Robin.

Re: Media test failure, check cable arrhhhhh!!!!!

hi,

thanks for tha advice but which driver do you mean there seem to be a lot of them on the site you directed me to.

yes, i am able to boot it to desktop, it seems to work fine then, everything will freeze, and the following screen will appear:

"A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to provent damage to your computer.

A process or thread crucial to your system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardwear of softwear is properly installed. if this is a new installation ask your hardwear of softwear manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If the problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardwear or softwear. Disable BIOS memory options suchas caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced start up option , and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** Stop 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x870EB020, 0x870EB16C, 0x81E50400)

Collecting data for crash dump...
initalizing dics for crash dump...
begginging dump of physical memory.
Dumping physical memeory to disc: 0"

this screen appears before the one that i have already posted, but usually goes away so fat that I do not have time to read it. this has happened many times since i first had the laptop, and bofore i had installed anything on it. so i really do not know what to do

Robin :)

Re: Media test failure, check cable arrhhhhh!!!!!

hi the driver would be the broadcom as you list it in your post i think this is the ethernet net but may also be wifi so check for those as to your error this is what i found on it
0x000000F4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message. One user, who experienced this on return from Standby mode on Win XP SP2, found the cause was that Windows was installed on a slave drive; compare KB 330100.
found here http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm you may need to consider a reinstall of your os
but this is only my opinion others may suggest another way
