USB ports and cd drive not working

Hi all

I've been having this problem for a while and I'm clueless as to how I can fix it.

Well today I just reinstalled Windows Vista in the hope that it would fix my problem but it hasn't!

A few months back my cd drive decided to randomly not work. Very rarely, when I first turn my laptop on it would detect a disc, but only for a short period of time! When its not doing that, the drive icon doesn't even show up in My Computer. The drive makes noises when I put a cd or dvd in it but then I get nothing!

Also a few weeks ago my USB ports decided to stop working properly. They work for my ipod, printer and phone, but not for my external hard drive or external cd-dvd drive (which both work on other computers) I have tried looking for drivers but I have no idea what drivers to install!

I'm an absolute idiot when it comes to technology, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it SO much!

Thankyou!

Re: USB ports and cd drive not working

Hey! Thankyou so much for your help, the first link sorted out my USB ports and my cd drive is now recognised!

Although now I have a new problem in that my cd drive will not recognise any discs

I would try cleaning it but I have nothing to clean it with. And I have no idea how to do the system restore!

My laptop is such a calamity!
