BSOD! Vista.

I am sorry ahead of time if there is not enough info in my post, but I am having some serious problems with my laptop and its driving me craaazy. I posted here because I saw a few posts similar to mine, but couldnt really find the solutions.

I have been getting the blue screen of death for a while now, usually about 10-15 mins after I have had it running..but it has caused me to turn off my comp and put it away for a while. I pulled it back out recently and got Stop: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x8b27F223, 0x86b57C58, 0x86B57954) and it said dfsc.sys - address 8B27F223 base at 8B279000. Now, I just rebooted it and got a bunch of different codes in the parentheses but did not even have enough time to write down the codes before it restarted iteself.

The newest software I have downloaded is CCleaner, I believe and I have tried ((VERY UNSUCCESSFULLY)) to run McAfee and also was unable to complete a system restore.

Pleeease, would love some help. And if any more info is needed I will try my hardest to get it on here. Thanks ahead of time.

Hi -

Welcome.

The bugcheck - 0x7e = a thread threw an exception; the exception = the 1st parm inside the parenthesis = 0xc0000005 = a memory access violation. Something in the system got in the way of the Microsoft Mup surrogate network related driver dfsc.sys from doing what it was supposed to be doing.

That would most likely be McAfee and its personal firewall causing these headaches for you. The fact that system restore failed, Windows Defender failed, and much more I am sure only strengthens this fact.

Don't worry about trying to write down the BSOD error numbers. They are contained in the mini kernel dump files left behind. If we need them, I'll show you a very easy way to get them + the system information that I would need.

For now, I would like for you to remove McAfee from your system using the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT). Download the (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Please let me know how things go.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

p.s. Do you have another Internet Security produvt installed besides McAfee? While not unheard of, it is unusual to see McAfee itself fail as it has full reign over the system.

Oh, there's a new one! Finally!

Please open an elevated command prompt (Start>type cmd, right-click>Run as administrator), and run the following command: chkdsk /r.

Re: BSOD! Vista.

Do you have an installation CD or recovery partition on your machine? The same command can be run from there.

Re: BSOD! Vista.

Too many errors, not enough in common to blame any one thing.
Please follow the instructions here to upload more info from your system: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

Since the system crashes frequently, be sure to save everything immediately after doing it - and upload the results as often as possible.

An 8086 error is most often (IME) a hardware issue. Have you blown out the vents in your laptop with a can of compressed air? Have you checked to be sure that the fan is working (blowing air out of the vents)?

Don't use an air compressor or a vacuum cleaner for this as they can damage the system.
