[SOLVED] Installing XP on Acer Aspire 3680
Hi everyone,
The other night I was on my computer and it started playing up, so what I did was restart the computer and open the eData Recovery menu. It was formatting my hard drive, and I did the very foolish thing of cutting off power and restarting the computer. Now when I turn on my computer, it brings up the Acer screen (where you can enter setup) then gets past it and shutsdown straight away! Now before I go on, I should also tell you I was running Windows Vista Home Basic. So what I have done now is gone into the Acer Bios Setup screen and disabled Quiet Boot, so I could see whats wrong. I restarted my computer, and it tells me there is no Operating System. I have access to a Windows XP Home Edition disc but no Vista disc as it was pre-installed, somy question is, would I be able to install the XP disc on my computer instead? I guess it being a Vista ready computer, it would have the right specs to install this right? If yes, should it just automatically startup when I turn on the computer and insert the disc? Thanks in advance! |

Re: Installing XP on Acer Aspire 3680
Hello and welcome to TSF, bache!
Do you have the original Vista DVD or would you prefer XP over Vista? If you don't have the Vista DVD, try calling up Acer as I have and ask for a recovery disc, or maybe a new Vista DVD. You never the magic they might make happen. |

Re: Installing XP on Acer Aspire 3680
Hey thanks for the help and the welcome! I don't have a Vista disc, and would much prefer XP anyway. I have had way too many problems on Vista. As far as I'm concerned, Vista is the worst OS ever.

Re: Installing XP on Acer Aspire 3680
First thing to do is check that you can find XP drivers for that pc . . check the acer support site.
I you have a valid XP installation cd and Product Key, This is a good guide to reinstalling XP . . you might want to print it for reference during the install. http://www.techhandbook.com/windows/...g-Windows.html

Re: Installing XP on Acer Aspire 3680
Hey guys,
just posting to let you all know I fixed the problem! I was pressing the wrong button to get into the Acer eRecovery menu. All I well, and the laptop is now at factory default! Thankyou for all your help! |
