Hello,
I'm using Vista and since yesterday I'm unable to boot normally (I'm currently posting from "safe mode"). Whenever I reboot, after seeing the Vista loading page (with the green progress bar), my monitor briefly displays "no input signal", then it switches to a black screen with the white arrow cursor. I can move the cursor around but apart from that, nothing moves and the screen remains black and my only option is to turn off the power. Pushing keys, or Ctrl Alt Del, doesn't do anything. The last thing I did yesterday before having this problem was installing Magic DVD Ripper, but I have not performed any operation with it and have since uninstalled it (which didn't change anything). That's the only thing I can think of that could have caused the problem, apart from that I only did the usual (Word, Outlook, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated ![]() EDIT : I have tried restoring the system to the "last known good configuration", but to no avail: Pressing F8 when the computer boots up just asks me from which drive I want to boot (I can't choose "advanced options" or anything of the sort), and if I try doing that from Windows in safe mode it tells me there are no saved configurations. Re: Black screen on Vista reboot... Help!
try using system restore to restore your system to any previous date
also check your system for viruses using latest antivirus definitions as you have mentioned magic dvd ripper cannot be the cause to this problem update your video drivers this should solve the problem if it persists ask me |

Re: Black screen on Vista reboot... Help!
Yes I have tried that. Unfortunately it won't let me do the system restore, even from there... The startup repair simply told me to uninstall any program I may have installed prior to the problem (which I did: Magic DVD Ripper).

Re: Black screen on Vista reboot... Help!
hi you may need to look at doing an upgrade repair, would there have been any updates done around the time of this issue occuring as that may be another source of the issue

Re: Black screen on Vista reboot... Help!
I have finally managed to do a system restore.
Magic DVD Ripper WAS the source of the problem. Needless to say, from now on I'm not going to touch this program with a ten feet pole, and I recommend other users do the same. |
