Computer keeps crashing
My computer keeps crashing at random times and I'm not sure why. The computer is a little over a month old and this just started happening this week. It goes to a blue screen with an error code on it and then restarts. I'm running Windows Vista SP1 64-bit. I'm gonna type out the message on the blue screen I've been getting below. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need this computer for college. Thanks!
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapter. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: *** Stop: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF800021D8B81, 0xFFFFFA60019F5798, 0xFFFFFA60019F5170) Collecting data for crash dump . . . Initializing disk for crash dump . . . Beginning dump of physical memory. Dumping physical memory to disk: 100 |

Re: Computer keeps crashing
Have you added any new hardware recently? Whenever you have spontaneous blue screens with 64-bit systems, I always check the drivers first. Though 32-bit applications can run fine on 64-bit OS, your drivers MUST be 64-bit otherwise you will get blue screens. Check that out first, especially if you've added any new hardware.

Re: Computer keeps crashing
It's not you, blame Microsoft. They released a faulty update that I believe you downloaded without knowing, named KB379879. The fix is here: http://www.techerator.com/2009/08/fi...ndows-updates/
This is really a massive thing that they did. Leet me know if it works. Good luck. |

Re: Computer keeps crashing
Raddy13: Nope, I haven't added any new hardware recently. I have an external hard drive that I've used without problem before and a flash drive that I just got but I don't think either of those would be the problem? Where can I see a list of all drivers and whether they're 64-bit or 32-bit?
InfalliblexOne: I don't have the exact same error code that was in the screenshot of that link. Maybe that's the problem but I still need to find time to try that. |

Quote:
0xc0000005 = The exception = memory access violation The "FFFFF" = "high values" and are like spaces with no space (NULLS) The bugcheck and exception codes would be the only 2 in common between your system and another - or even by this same system during subsequent crashes. Parms 2, 3, 4 inside the parenthesis are memory addresses and are therefore variable Please follow the advice of usasma and InfalliblexOne. To check which Windows Updates you have installed, run Belarc - you'll see the list about 1/2-way down the page. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
