Re: vista automatic update /download is not working
Hi -
I think you will find that NIS is the problem here. It and its cousin apps (KIS, MIS, etc...) do not play well with Vista or Windows 7. Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the NRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot. NRT - http://solutions.symantec.com/sdccom...070816103157EN Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings - START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition Please let me know how things go. Kindly close this thread as my problem got resolved , by automatic latest updates of Norton internet security , as well as turning off Norton internet security firewall, spam filter etc temporarily after latest updates from Symantec, today i could down load all the updates that have been released by microsoft has been downloaded and installed without deleting or removing Norton internet security only turning off some functions for an hour or so.
thanks for the help from techsupportforum ![]()

Re: vista automatic update /download is not working
Hi -
I am glad that your problems involving Windows Updates and the inability to download from Microsoft sites is solved. However, I am just a bit confused as to how all worked. If I understand correctly, the solution for you after 1½ months was - - allow NIS to automatically update itself with the latest NIS updates... which it usually does every 15 minutes anyway - disable pieces of NIS - after it updates I don't understand what was so special about that certain days' NIS updates, i.e., why prior NIS updates did not work.... but then why do you have to disable pieces of NIS to get to MS sites or for Windows Updates to download? Will you have to do this everyday? Again... glad that your issues are solved, but I think removing NIS like many others have would have been much easier. Thank you for posting back.
