vista wont start need help

i bought a windows vista 2-3 years ago and i've screwed it up bad, bad virus protection (Mcafee isnt working anymore), i've hit the power button to shut it off to many times. its slow as hell and im wiping it with a recovery disk. im going to have Best Buy put more ram on it, new video card and download a new version of vista - i have no clue about that short of thing... thing is the comp wont even start now, i toggle the power cable and sometimes it starts and shows HP and then dies. now its starts for 3 seconds and dies. im gonna blow a few hundred bucks with the guys at best fixing it up but do i need to order a new battery? or is it just the thousands of virus's on my comp stopping it? desperate need of advice, can i leave it to to guys at Best Buy or do i need to order a new part?

its a HP Pavilion laptop, if you need more info please ask

Re: vista wont start need help

Is this a laptop or a Desktop? If it is a laptop, then you probably need a new battery, you can test this out by removing the battery and plugging it in and powering it up. That should work. If it is a Desktop, then your PSU has probably gone bad and needs to be replaced. You can buy a new one pretty cheap. But since you're bringing it to Best Buy they will charge you an arm and a leg or convince you to buy a new computer (there on sale today!)
