Problem opening file

I had some files in MS word 2007 under O.S vista i create a partition disc win O.s XP and when i transfered the files from Win vista to Win XP the files do not open and instead of giving the information it gives me many symbols and some options to open the files with O.s, vista, other.

I need to open those files please if you can help me i will appreciated.

Hi, some genius decided the old .docs extension made too much sense so we had to change it and why not make all those people who understood office 2003 redundant we will reinvent the wheel, so now we have .docx. We desperately need to end this monopoly, competition is what computer users should be calling out for. It is the biggest consumer problem of the 21st century.
