Blank Computer monitor due to resolution!

Okay so I have had this problem since I first got my computer which was around a year and a half ago. So what happens is every time the screen resolution changes it causes the monitor to go into a grey blank screen. Thats is where I sit there for 10 minutes pressing the power button on and off until the the screen responds. All of my drivers are up to date and because of this problem playing games is just such a hassle. If you can help that would be really appreciated. =)

Maybe your monitor cant handle the high resolutions, it happens.
Post all hardware specs including power supply wattage and brand.
