Out of range error
Hey folks.
![]() Not sure where I needed to post this so I decided to put it in this part of the forum. I have a Lenovo PC which was purchased nearly 2 years ago and last night I received a really weird error on screen which said "out of range". My monitor went completely black and my pc will not boot into Windows at all. I tried booting in Safe Mode and I've tried "with networking" as well but it's still a no go. The computer says it detects some kind of hardware or software problem but doesn't go into details. It's funny because I was just on my computer around 11pm last night and everything was fine. I shut down and decided to come back to it around 12:30am only to stumble across this problem once I fired it up again. I've been doing some research online and everyone says it's because my refresh rate or resolution is too high. I don't understand how this can be if everything was working fine for nearly 2 years. I have my video card set at the monitor's highest setting which is 1280 x 1024. I know it's not my monitor because I'm able to play my Xbox 360 games on it (I have one of those box switchers). I've never encountered this problem before so I'm completely lost. So what's going on??? I guess I need to take it in eh? Any suggestions? Last edited by JiggyG1; 07-18-2009 at 08:43 AM. |

Re: Out of range error
I have already tried that along with the option "networking" and my computer still won't get into windows. Once my pc boots up it automatically gives me options (Lenovo's diagnostics screen?)
I've even tried last known good config and still nothing. I'm thinking that there might be something wrong hardware wise. Should I try F8 constantly and see if I can "enable VGA"? I read somewhere online that this might help. I just don't understand why I might need to change my resolution when it has been working fine up until now. I didn't tweak anything at all. Just weird. Anyways....any other suggestions folks? |

Re: Out of range error
Ok folks, here's the latest on my situation:
I managed to get back into Windows after using Lenovo's PC Doctor and it managed to go back to a system restore point before all this happened. Problem is now it has prompted me to update because of the rollback and now Vista is asking me for a product key. I entered my key from the sticker on the side of the computer (OEM version) and it's coming back saying somthing like "confirmation ID does not match the one from my computer". I tried to use a keyfinder program but I can't open it up because I can't get into my harddrive. I am able to surf the web thanks to Lenovo's Opera brower built into PC Doctor. I tried contacting Microsoft and did the automated phone thing and that didn't work either. Called Lenovo and they told me they could fix the problem but I would have to reform everything. I don't wanna lose my data (unless I absolutely have to). I guess the only thing left to do is bring my PC back to where I go it and see if they can help me out. Is there any other recourse I can take? I'm not paying for Microsoft's Tech Support because something tells me they're not going to be of any help. Is there any other way to locate my product key if I can't get into Windows? |
