Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

I have WIndows Home basic and want to get Windows 7. Which upgrade would I need? Or would I have to purchase a whole new copy? How does that work exactly?

Re: Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

As far as I know you cant buy win7 yet. But you can go to microsoft
and download it for free. Free until june 2010. With win7 rc1, this is
not a upgrade, its a full version install...You will have to create a
bootable iso, they will email your reg keys. I would wipe your drive
with killdisk, free download do a google for it. Then boot to the cd
you have burned with win7, and away you go.

So you can download it for free, but what happens in October when it's released?

you can preorder it and if you are planning to get it, it would be best to get it now. It is about 49 bucks for premium and 99 bucks for professional versions. It will be shipped in october. The offer expires in the states Saturday.

You can use the RC edition until June 2010. Then, it will start rebooting every 2 hours or something. Basically, so Microsoft will get you to buy the upgrade. Pre-ordering it is the best way to go right now, after downloading the RC edition.

starting in march it will reboot every two hours up until june then your computer will self destruct if you did not purchase the upgrade... figuratively speaking.
