windows 7; worth it?
hi, just thinking of updating to windows 7, but Im worried about the increased chunk of system resources it'll use, in comparison to my current xp os.
but if the few articles and reviews i've read are true its nice and quick and has come out with alot of praise. Is this true? thank you |

Re: windows 7; worth it?
Hi -
Yes, Windows 7 is worth it. It really is alot like Vista, but even I must admit it is much faster than Vista. Windows 7 does remind me of XP in a way -- that you get done what you set out to do -- and quickly. But you do have features that were introduced with Vista - like the UAC and the hidden Administrator user account. I have never been a big fan of XP --> Vista upgrades and am not encouraging XP --> Windows 7 upgrades, either. I would say the exception is if the XP system is fairly new (manufactured ~ 2006 or later) and that the user knows that updated drivers can be obtained for every device found in the system. I have worked on too many BSOD threads involving XP upgrades to Vista and did not like to see the reversions back to XP, where many should have remained. I would suggest that you try the Windows 7 RC first before purchasing. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...tructions.aspx Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: windows 7; worth it?
It is true, Windows 7 is much less resource hungry than Vista is. People have been able to install it on systems with very small amounts of RAM and very slow processors. Where I work we had a test machine up and running Windows 7 with a 1.6Ghz CPU and 256MB of RAM and it ran better than XP did.
