[SOLVED] Win7: Executables over the Network

So I have a NAS setup on my network so that i can share files between all the computers on my network. Just joined Win7 to my network and I mapped the drive so that i can access it easier. No problems there. I can see everything on the drive and can access everything except for executable files.

I get an error that it can't find the <application name> on the drive. It doesn't matter if i run it as administrator or not. If i copy the file down to the computer and run it, it works like it should. However, this isn't a very practical solution as i don't want to be copying all these files over.

All other network sharing and functions work so i don't know what it is i should be checking.

So I am stuck there. Note that this works fine with all other computers on the network which are running various OS.

Here is some system specs:

Win7
Sony Vaio vgn-cr123e
Linksys WRT350N

I would appreciate any help that any body can give.

Re: Win7: Executables over the Network

Ok, so i got an update.

If i boot into safe mode with networking i can run the executables. So this leads me to believe that there is some application running that was interfering. I uninstalled AVG and completely disabled windows firewall, rebooted and it still didn't work.

I looked in msconfig and there is nothing else to uncheck in the startup tab. This is pretty much a fresh install. So the only thing left would be services. They are all microsoft services so there is no other ones running. I don't have a clue which one it could be.

If anyone has any suggestions i welcome them. I don't bite.

Re: Win7: Executables over the Network

In msconfig, check the diagnostic startup block then boot normally. After reboot, go back to msconfig and tick the blocks for all networking services. Reboot again. If the problem occurs, then you know it is in one of the networking services. If not, you will have to experiment by starting services in groups until you find the culprit. Who knows, you may have discovered a bug in one of microsofts services prior to rtm.

Re: Win7: Executables over the Network

Just realized i didn't update this thread. The problem ended up being UAC. I disabled it and everything is running fine now.
