[SOLVED] Light Version of Windows Vista

My computer came with an OEM version of Vista. Recently I've installed Linux and I'm wanting to dual boot Vista and Linux. I know how to already, so I shouldn't need help there, what I need is a light version of Windows Vista. I've heard of light versions of Windows XP, but never Vista, and I'm left wondering if there even is one or if there's a better solution.

I need a version of Windows on my HP Pavilion a6530f for work, the Linux version is for play and I love it. I've tried XP even though I knew it wouldn't work--no xp drivers created for my chipset

Anyway, that's pretty much it. I need a light version of Vista because I really don't like the visual extras and features Windows comes with, but I still need to be able to use unaltered EXEs. I know of a compatibility layer known as WINE, but it mostly supports games and the like. Many programs I've tried to install did not work with WINE and I'm not getting rid of my Linux :-)

Re: Light Version of Windows Vista

hello

dont know about a "lite" version. but you can get rid of the "eye candy".

start > right click on computer > properties > advanced system settings (left hand side) > continue > advanced tab.. choose settings. choose "adjust for best performance" click apply...

good luck

ps you can also make it look more like xp.

right click taskbar.. choose properties.. start menu tab.. choose classic start menu..

Re: Light Version of Windows Vista

Thanks, it's not really what I was looking for, but it doesn't really matter I guess. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of one. The lite version of XP uses less than a third of the system resources than that of home/professional. It really comes in a utility that allows you to edit the iso and take out things you really don't need. Turned a 700mb iso into an iso less than 200mb.

Oh well, solved for the most part.

Re: [SOLVED] Light Version of Windows Vista

What I was trying to do is none of the above. It's taking software that I purchased and now legally own and rewriting and/or editing it to be of more use to me. Please be sure to read the whole post and be sure your accusations are correct.

Re: [SOLVED] Light Version of Windows Vista

The way I always understood the EULA is you can't modify it and then sell it as your own. I could be wrong and if I am, I'll apologize. I haven't really done anything yet with it, haven't even downloaded it. Like I said--either here or on a different thread--I like to keep it free and legal.

I will gladly apologize if it is illegal, but as far as I know, as long as it's for private use it's not really a problem. Or say a company uses it to remove the games and screen savers to stop distraction or something like that while at work.

Sorry for going off, I just got really defensive lol. It'll probably happen again, but I'll try to keep the posts to a minimum.

Re: [SOLVED] Light Version of Windows Vista

Hi, on the contrary there is no violation of the EULA here. There was 98 lite then 2k lite and XP lite. If you google you will find Vists light. many of my colleagues liked these versions I had 98 lite. MS are working on their own version for windows Seven called "MinWin" this shows they are beginning to offer computer professionals what they want, well done.

AWE!!! jenae called me a professional :-)

I am so letting this go to my head. Thanks though, I was pretty sure it wasn't against the EULA, but it's good to know for sure :-)

Re: [SOLVED] Light Version of Windows Vista

By the way, if anyone is having problems running vLite, you need to install the WAIK or AIK and search for the WIM filter and install it as well. Then try running it.
