Screen goes black after start-up
Please can someone help me? I am NOT technically minded and so find it hard to sort out problems or even understand the answers (not a good start).
My PC has been running well - until today! I switched on, the PC worked, it booted up normally and got to the 'windows loading' green bar at the bottom. The screen went blank - the monitor did not go 'off' and neither did the PC. If I turn the monitor off and on, the screen display is all there - windows has started and there's my desktop. Before I can do much with it though everything goes black again. I tried this a few times and the same thing happened. I booted up with my finger on F8 - booting in safe mode is no different - the PC responds as it should but the screen still goes black. By switching the monitor on and off repeatedly I limp forward to the point where I can do a 'windows repair'. This appears to work and I am now using my PC (obviously). I have no idea if this will happen again - I wondered if some automatic update has clashed with graphics drivers but I don't know what I'm talking about nor what to do with the thought :-) Please could someone give me a best guess solution in easy speak - I stress - I'm not in the least bit techie - any help most gratefully received - I'm scared to switch off now in case I can't get back here! Thank you. Cheers Karen |
