Is it worth?
As i understand, Windows vista/7 are the way to go, especialy if you got a dual-core processor. My system easily supports vista, but i would like to ask: if I am usually using 32bit software, is it worth going on vista?

Re: Is it worth?
If I were you, I would skip Vista. Windows 7 is just better in many ways. You can download the Windows 7 RC for free. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx
And then "upgrade" to the final Windows 7 later. If your computer can handle Vista, then it can handle Windows 7 better. You could either dual-boot your current XP install with win7 or just do a clean install. Thats up to you. (also, they do have the 32-bit version of Win7)

Re: Is it worth?
Before considering Windows 7 x64, make sure you can find signed 64-bit drivers for ALL devices. Both Vista x64 & Windows 7 x64 mandate signed drivers. Deviced w/out them will not start up.
Take the advice given by csc2000e - try Windows 7 RC x86 (32-bit) test version first. Last edited by jcgriff2; 07-04-2009 at 03:58 AM. |

Re: Is it worth?
Just so you know, I am running Windows 7 RC 64-bit and all my devices work. I've got quite a few too. To get the most out of a 64-bit OS you should make sure you have 4GB of ram. That seems to be the "sweet spot" right now. And its pretty cheap to get.

Re: Is it worth?
I run Windows 7 x64 on my laptop and it works fine with 2Gb of RAM, though I am planning to upgrade to 4Gb when I have the opportunity so that World of Warcraft runs more smoothly. I noticed a huge improvement from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 32-bit and good improvement from 32-bit to 64-bit (that may have been just the upgrade from Beta to RC). As long as you can find those drivers you should get Win7, especially because it's free.
