Partition Hell =))

I feel a little on the gullible side. I was trying to uninstall Windows XP and when I booted XP in safe mode there was no option to uninstall in Add/Remove Programs. So I decided to download Partition Magic 8, format the drive, set the vista partition to active and everything would be fine.

The laptop rebooted and the effects where applied when vista tried to start up. After another reboot all I can see is a flashing white underscore( _ ) on my screen.

Since then I have tried to reinstall vista ; still nothing happens. I also tried the RC of Windows 7 and still nothing. Also Windows XP and still no luck.

I have also tried most bootrec commands and they didn't work, and using DiskPart in the command prompt so select the partition and make it active.

Seems something so obvious but it's left me clueless. Anyone got any ideas ?

Thanks .

Hi -

Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try Vista again.

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -

Re: Partition Hell =))

If there's no important data on the drive, do as above poster mentioned.

As for adjusting partition or MBR or BCD data, it would really depend on how you set up your dual-boot system.
Which OS did you install first? Did you install them to the same partition? If yes, what were the names of the windows folders (one might be windows the other might be windows.000) for each OS. And how did you partition the drive(s)?

Re: Partition Hell =))

Sorry guys for the inactivity and feedback laptops not really been bothering me as I have the pc. Anyways I downloaded KillDisk but realised I had no CD to burn it to. Then, few days later I was looking through my cd collection and I came across "Hirens Boot CD" Which I had burned a few months ago to take the password off my dads laptop because he forgot it. Hiren Boot CD contains everything needed to fix HD errors, partitions, remove forgotten passwords and fix problems with your OS.

This came in really handy. After going through a few of the programs I managed to fix my problem and reinstall vista.

Thanks guys for the help anyway really apprieciate it.
