Programs not connecting to Internet

System: Vista Home premium
Machine: Toshiba Satellite A300
Firewall: Windows Default
Connection: Wifi no proxy server

Only Internet Explorer will connect to the internet. Ive tried Firefox, Google Earth, Safari, Windows Media Center and nothing else will connect.
Steps taken to try to resolve problem:
1.Checked LAN and Set to Automatically detect settings
2. Added desired programs to exeptions list in Windows Firewall
3. Removed Norton 360 software
4. Installed and ran RegCure AND Free Windows Registry Repair and Fixed all
Registry Errors

Any help is Greatly Appreciated

Re: Programs not connecting to Internet

Right click the Start Button and choose Explore. Scroll down to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc right click the Hosts File and open with Notepad. Make sure the only line after the For Example is 127.0.0.1 Local Host. Delete all other entries. Save file. Try it again.

Re: Programs not connecting to Internet

Hi, You say you removed Norton did you use their uninstaller this is critical go here:-

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/U...val-Tool.shtml

Next uncheck the automatically detect settings under LAN (it is not meant for this purpose and will cause you connection problems)

Now try the Google browser.

If you still cannot connect explain how you:-
Quote:
2. Added desired programs to exeptions list in Windows Firewall
For this exercise turn off the firewall see if they connect.

Too late now however reg cleaners are not recommended see "announcement" at the head of this forum.

If still no joy:-
Go to start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt and select "run as administrator" at the prompt type

Code:
ipconfig /flushdns press enter
Type exit
Try again. No joy:-
Go back to a Command prompt (as admin) and type:-

Code:
Type:- netsh int ip reset press enter then exit Reboot to take effect
This defaults your tcp/ip stack.

Try again.

Do not forget to turn windows firewall on (it should not be necessary for you to do anything to the firewall for these browsers to work). And get a decent AV program AVG free or Nod32 are my recommendation .. NO Norton or McAfee. Let us know how you get on.
