[SOLVED] After installing recent updates, computer won't start up
I recently downloaded and installed the last 16 windows vista updates
(recommended and optional, and one important) as they were installing, my computer just shut down When it started up again, It displayed the screen that tells me windows was shut down abnormally, and I selected the "Start Windows normally" option after that, it showed that little green bar that loads before the welcome screen but it stopped and showed a blue screen with text the screen disappears and shuts down my computer before i can read it, but I took a video so I could see the words: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut don to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode. Technical information: ***Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8706C6C6, 0x807542F0, 0x8075JFBC) *** ndis.sys - Address 8706C6C6 base at 87055000, Datastamp 479190e7 Collecting data for crash dump... Initializing disk for crash dump... Beginning dump of physical memory. Dumping physical memory to disk: 85" After it restarted itself, I started it in safe mode, and windows configured the updates, then restarted now i get to this blue screen when i try normal mode, everytime i start my computer safe mode works, but safe mode with networking leads to the blue screen as well how do i get it working again? Re: After installing recent updates, computer won't start up
from memory that's the nic card error
in safe mode go into the device manager and check for any yellow alongside of anything you may need to reload the nic driver

Re: After installing recent updates, computer won't start up
Hi -
I agree with dai - see if an update is available for your wifi & Ethernet drivers from your system manufacturer's web site. Bugcheck 0x7e = system threw an exception, which is 0xc0000005 - a memory access violation. The Microsoft Network Driver Interface Specification driver ndis.sys is listed as the probable cause, but is not. ndis.sys timestamp = 479190e7 = Fri Jan 18 21:55:51 2008 -- it is a Vista SP1 driver. Follow the instructions to gather dump files & system info - http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html You can run it in SAFEMODE if need be; normal Windows boot-up preferred. Attach the output to your next post. Then run the Driver Verifier - http://www.techsupportforum.com/2110308-post3.html Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
