Blue screen of death

Running vista home preminum on hp m9100t. after installing a java update got the blue screen. Can go to safe mode, run diagonstice, go to boot menu. Windows stalls while trying to load and blue screen comes back. Tried to innstall recovery disks and got same results. Replaced the hard drive and get the same results.. Has anyone had this problem before and is there a fix. Makes me want to get a Apple MAC

Re: Blue screen of death

If it boots to Safe Mode, but not to normal mode, then it's likely to be a driver that doesn't load in Safe Mode, but does in normal mode.

You state that you've replaced the hard drive. Does Windows still behave the same way (goes into Safe Mode, but not normal mode)?

Try following the instructions here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

If it doesn't work, then post back and we'll go about it a different way.

Re: Blue screen of death

Have you tried going on the recovery console on your OS' CD? and then type in CHKDSK? Or go into Safe mode and then go on CMD and type in CHKDSK C:/F then press Y and restart computer, let it do a CHKDSK on the start up and see if there are any errors stated, if so it should fix them. If it has no errors and its still continueing not to run in normal mode, If you have a antivirus program, Run safemode and then run a scan on the whole disk just to make sure its not a virus. After that, if you still have the problem , You will have to repair the windows files by rebooting your computer running from the cd and press enter to continue, F8 to agree/accept and then R to repair the drive. See is that works

Re: Blue screen of death

If this is a Dell the usual method of repairing it is to install Vista w/SP1
There are other methods to address a STOP 0xC1F5 error, but they are difficult and don't always work (here's one of them: http://www.delmartian.com/nullpointe...-KB946084.html ).

I've seen this once on a non-Dell, and the user fixed it the same way. If you don't have an installation disk with SP1 on it, you can use this post to create a disk with SP1 "slipstreamed" into it: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/15...ation-dvd.html
