Where is the "play" application located for media player?
Hi,
Well that's about it. I'd like to know what application causes windows media player to respond "play/pause", since I'm not happy with the location of the play/pause key on my keyboard and would like to make it more accessible. If I knew, I could remap it... Simple? |

Re: Where is the "play" application located for media player?
I'm afraid keyboard shortcuts in WMP are hard-coded into the player and not customizable:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../player10.mspx You could try Media Player Classic instead: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ Go to view, options, player, keys. What's so awful about the default space bar to play/pause anyway? |

Re: Where is the "play" application located for media player?
Hey, thanks for the reply.
Actually, it's not so much about the hotkeys IN media player, but OUT of it, that is, when the WMP window is not above. Some keyboards have a "play" button embedded, which is great, but I'm looking to map the function to another one. I work in translations and transcriptions, which means I have to pause/play about once every 7 seconds, which makes the position of the play button really critical... If I must restore the wmp window from the word doc every time, it'll make my output simply catastrophic. Now I just bought this great logitech keyboard, which has a number of hotkeys, assignable via a little program, but the "play" function cannot be modified or assigned to another key through this, unless there is an .exe which is responsible for the "play/pause" action OUTSIDE of the wmp window, in which case I can assign it... :) Don't know if I made myself clear here... But yes, it is pretty important in my case! :) |

Re: Where is the "play" application located for media player?
Is the wmv file you're transcribing streamed? Or are you allowed to download it to your hard drive and play it back? If the latter, use Media Player Classic as mentioned above.
If the former... well I'm not sure. I've never really tested MPC's streaming capabilities. Nor VLC Media Player's. If streaming, in the interim, if your desktop is large enough, why not leave the two windows side by side, and leave the mouse cursor on top of the play/pause button. Then use the keyboard uniquely for typing. When pause is needed, click the mouse button. Alt-tab to switch between windows. |

Re: Where is the "play" application located for media player?
![]() Thanks I tried all of that! It just takes way much longer, because no matter how gifted you are with the keyboard, you really do need the pointer pretty often, I found! Then again you'd have to pull the mp window above the doc at some point, which brings me back to square one. Thanks for trying to help though, much appreciated! :-) |
