Hidden processes and problems

Hi all,

I've just bought my Acer Aspire 4937G and I've had a lot of problems with it. At first, whenever I open up window explorer and select D drive, my window explorer would not respond for about 10-20 seconds, which is quite irritating. After a few weeks of using, my computer starts to slow down very badly. My task manager says that I have 102 processes but when I count I only have 40 of them. I opened up msconfig and turned off some programs but I still have a lot of hidden processes and this is the first time I've encountered this problem.

Also when I count the CPU usage of all the programs, normally it's only about 0-10%, but task manager says that the total amount of CPU usage is 10-80% all the time. It's very fustrating because I'm using this laptop to do my projects and it lags from time to time.

The other problem I'm facing is I can't seem to open full screen programs. When the program loads up it will "Alt-Tab" back to desktop. I have to keep trying to select the program and click somewhere before it automatically alt tab back.

To help with advice, for the past few weeks I've been doing a lot of work with my laptop and leaving it on for a very long time, at least 18 hours a day or so. I also have a habit of hibernating my laptop a lot because I tend to travel to different places everyday and I don't want to spend time shutting down and starting up. I've also heard that hibernating is better than shutting down.

I hope someone can help me with this problem soon. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Which processes are taking up the most CPU? Could you upload a screenshot of your Task Manager window, in the Processes tab?

It seems to me you have a viruses or some bad malware in your system.

I would follow these directions NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

But I'm using the latest of McAfee, I don't visit much sites except forums and youtube. Is it still possible to get that?

And to people who misunderstand, there's only 1 or 2 programs that use up 1 or 2% of my CPU. But task managers says that the total CPU usage is way more than that, and there are a lot of hidden processes.

And is excessive hibernating of my laptop damaging to the hardware? I heard that if you hibernate and don't shut down for too long your cpu will run slower and slower.

I'll follow the directions and see what happens. thanks

"I don't visit much sites except forums and youtube"

Actually, you'd be surprised at how easily you can get a virus, it's even possible to not be on the internet (yet, still have an internet connection) and still get one (from what I'm reading).

Good luck.
