How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
I have been having a bit of trouble with my display driver stopping for a split second and then recovering right away. This happens about two or three times a day.
While in the device manager, to see what I could find about this problem, I noticed that I have a Sigma Tel High Definition Audio Codec which seems to be OK. I have a Virtual Audio Device which seems to be OK. I also have 15 SndTDrivers. All are V32. All have a yellow flag by them. I had 16 with a yellow flag, but I uninstalled one to see what would happen when it was re installed. It never re installed. My sound seems to be fine. It is it normal to have so many SndTDriversV32? And what about the yellow flags by them? Thank You |

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
No, the yellow flag isn't normal - nor is having 15 of them.
Do any of them not have the yellow flag? If so, right click on all the one's with the yellow flag and select "Uninstall"

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
Hello likekinds,
You should remove all the listed Drivers with the yellow flag beside them and restart the computer. Then check Device Manager to see what is loaded. If still having problems I suggest that you remove the Audio Driver and install the latest Driver.

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
Un-install ALL sound drivers, regardless if flagged or not, then re-boot.

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
Some install instructions if you need them:
Download 1.Click Download Now, to download the file. 2.When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP users will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In: window appears. 3.From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop. 4.If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file icon appears on your desktop. Install 1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R157052.EXE. 2.The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R157052. Write down this path so the executable (I.e. Setup.exe) file can be found later. 3.The Self-Extractor window appears. 4.Click OK. 5.After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is still open, close it. 6.Click the Start button and then click Run. 7.Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R157052 in the Open textbox and then click OK. 8.Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
Hi D -
This is your system - and you do need driver updates - Code:
System Specs: Dell DXP061 Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x86 Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 2.5.3 Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.9GHz 3 GB RAM Code:
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll 7.15.0010.9746 (English) 12/7/2006 20:25:00 Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection e1e6032.sys 9.06.0031.0000 11/16/2006 SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC stwrt.sys 6.10.5511.0000 (English) 5/6/2007 17:12:02, 326656 bytes I can't find update for sigmatel/ IDT codec - I have same codec, but x64 - & hate it. As for the others - CHIPSET - IRQ 16 Intel(R) P965/G965 PCI Express Root Port - 29A1 Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...=Windows+Vista #2 - from that site - . INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets (2455KB) 9.0.0.1008 6/2/2008 Download -=-=-=-=-=-=-=- NVIDIA - http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvist...2.50_whql.html Let it scan your system. Your video card - NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE I am having a problem w/ the DC after 82566 - Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection e1e6032.sys 9.06.0031.0000 11/16/2006 I can't find 82566 w/ DC - I'll keep looking. Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
Hey likekinds, My opinion would be to gather all these updates to a file on your desktop and install after all is collected.
The link for audio again: http://support.dell.com/support/down...g=en&TabIndex= Make sure on this page the boxes are filled out like screenshot. Sigmatel Audio Driver.jpg Newer than what you had. I'd grab it for now. ========================================================== Scan your video card at the site J.C. suggested-here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvist...2.50_whql.html Post back with what its results are. If it shows GeForce Driver Release 182 (whql) April-02-2009 82.6mb then download it. If not post back asap. -------------------------------------------------------- nvidia 7300le driver Release 182.50 4-2-2009 Link below: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvist...2.50_whql.html I suggest you also click the "users guide tab" and click on "Control Panel Users Guide" it's a pdf file and save a copy to your desktop. ========================================================= For the Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection, I believe it drills down to this. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...stems&lang=eng I am not 100% sure, there is some literature to read there. Anyone second that motion? I 'll get back on that likekinds. ========================================================= The . INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets (2455KB) 9.0.0.1008 6/2/2008 looks like the ticket. Stay in touch |

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
It seems I'm not being taken to the page you want me to visit. Even though I click on the link you provided, I still get a page that has the older driver. I am using Firefox. I noticed you are using IE. I even tried IE to get to the same page as you, but I still get to the one with the older driver. Any suggestions.

Re: How Many Sound Drivers Are Enough?
There seems to be some very strange things going on. When I went to the site JC recommended to have Nvidia do a scan, I was not offered that option. I did have the option of downloading the driver and I did. It was identical to the one he suggested. Now when I click on the link you supply to have the scan done, I am directed to the page in the screen shot. ????
