[SOLVED] Programs aren't opening on start up!
As the title suggests, my programs are refusing to open on start up. This started happening about two weeks ago but all it took was a quick restart to fix but now I have to restart 4-5 times before the programs slowly load.
Here's my hijackthis log; Code:

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
Mozilla Firefox, MSN messenger, Internet Download Manager and pretty much every .exe file. Text documents and folders seem to open fine though.

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
When you click on exe file - what happens?
Boot into safemode & see if same problem. Tap F8 key during boot-up. |

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
When I click the exe files the mouse just displays a busy sign for a second and that's all that happens. I've just booted the computer on safe mode right now and everything seems to be working fine.

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
Is system working fine in just safemode - or is normal boot working as well?

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
I've just booted it up on normal mode, it took a little longer than usual to load up the exe files but it seems to be working now.
This happens on and off a lot now.

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
Run Vista SFC - system file checker/ repair utility -
START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select run as Administrator | the black command prompt ("DOS") screen will appear | type the following: Code:
sfc /scannow I think one of your biggest problems here is COMODO - I have seen it cause many BSODs in Vista, but not sure if it is connected here. I would remove it - not by program un-install - see this - http://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3...-t17220.0.html Re-boot upon completion. Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings - START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK Install a/virus product like AVG for now & do scan - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition COMODO & other 3rd party firewalls interfere with Vista system services and block local ports. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
Sweet! I'm running SFC right now and hopefully I'll be able to finish up the rest of it after work tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it.

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
You're welcome.
I think system performance will improve once COMODO gone. jcgriff2 . |

Re: Programs aren't opening on start up!
Hi, I have seen too many problems caused by comodo to recommend it, still many people swear by it. Most likely there are a few reg keys that have become corrupted, you may need to repair them (there is a more complete repair for Vista.exe problems hopefully you will not need it) if the problem persists. Keep this in mind for later if needed. Copy and paste all below into notepad then in notepad click on "file" then "save as" call it exe.reg and save to desktop to merge into registry double click the saved file, reboot to take effect.. you can do this now if you wish will do no harm.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\OpenWithList] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe\UserChoice]
