Vista is hiding my downloads
I've been downloading a few small applications, or been trying to.. but whenever the computer prompts me to start downloading the file, it hasn't been giving me a choice where to put it. Then, after the file has finished downloading, I can't find it!!!!!!!! Not even if you look at what the file is named and do a search for it, it still won't find it. What is happening to my download files??

Every browser has its download manager (kind of). For example in chrome if you press ctrl+J the download window will open which shows you all the downloads you have made so far(unless you have cleared the temporary internet files). You can find the location of your downloaded files there. There is another way to solve this problem is to set the default location for downloading files. Go the settings page for your browser and set the default location...
Provide me with your browser name for specific help.... Last edited by jegadeshk; 04-08-2009 at 01:18 PM. |

Re: Vista is hiding my downloads
I've only been using Mozilla Firefox. I just went into the settings and set it up so that downloads go to my desktop. I found the path was my documents folder but none of that stuff was in there. In fact, nothing I've EVER downloaded was in that folder. Also, I might have a blaster virus lurking around in here. I've been scanning like crazy but it still hasn't found anything

Re: Vista is hiding my downloads
I have to answers for you
1) Am not sure abt that virus thing but if you have you download manager integrated to the browser then it will be downloaded to the download manager's dedicated folder. If you dont have a external download manager (e.g. Flash get, IDM...) try installing one of them. Because every time you try to download a file through these managers, it will pop up any problem if there is any 2) try restoring your system to an earlier point. that helps a lot. |

Re: Vista is hiding my downloads
Hi, we need to know your user profile I am sure your downloads are there we just have to find them. I strongly recommend you do not use any download manager you will find many developers will simply not allow downloads with these apps, they made some sense with dial up (they split the download among multiple sites to improve speed) they are a checksum disaster and prone to easy hacks. Go to start all programs accessories and right click on "command prompt" select "run as administrator" at the prompt type "set" (without the quotes) post back the results.
