Hi, Whenever I create a New Text Document and I choose a font, size and/or style, it changes all of my texts documents throughout my computer to that format. I just noticed this problem last night when I started Hijack This and was prompted to check my Host file. When I opened my Host, that's when I realized it was the same font, size etc., that I had used on a document I had finished earlier, so, I changed the font to see if it was linking all of my texts and, yes it is. Does someone know, What's going on? I'm running Vista Home Basic, no Service Pack because it won't install, but, that's another issue. ![]() Thank You, Sd |

Re: Need Help w/Texts Documents
Hi -
What text editor are you using? Notepad? If so, Notepad retains the font settings when it closes - it is not file specific. If you want to save documents with different fonts, size, etc.. you need a Word Processor. Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |

Re: Need Help w/Texts Documents
Hi,
Yes, I'm just using Notepad, but, even if it retains the same font, "Why is it changing the font on all of my texts throughout my computer?" For example I open a new text/notepad to write myself a To Do picture list, using Bold Webdings, Size 24. When I'm finished, I save it and close. Then, I decide to add something to my grocery list that I created w/notepad two days earlier. When that opens, instead of being an Arial font that I used for it, it's a bunch of bold webdings, size 24 that I just used for my to Do list. It even applies the last used font to my Host file when I view it under notepad, so, my host file is a bunch of webdings. |

Re: Need Help w/Texts Documents
In text files, the font & size are not retained by the text file itself. The reason that other text files appear to have changed is because Notepad retains the settings that were last used while editing the last text file. A text editor can open just about any type of file - .txt, .log, - pick a file extension - even those without file extensions, like the HOSTS file. If you were to send me that text file with the changed font and 24 size, it would open in my Notepad as font = Lucida Console; size=12.
To see more about text editor - download some and try them. Notepad++ was to be Notepads successor. Why it is not, I don't know. First, create a restore point via System Restore - so you'll be able to easily get rid of Notepad++ and the others if you wish - START | type rstrui - create restore point Notepad++ download - http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/P...Notepad__.html Editpad - http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html You'll find that if you change the font & size in them, other text files will open using the previously saved font/size. You should be using a Word processor if you want a file you are editing to retain font and size settings. For Word processing - use the free OpenOffice from Sun/ Java - http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html Open office like MS Word saves documents with the file extension DOC.
