How Do I Create An Association?

Whenever I try to open the Windows Compatibility Wizard with Run,I get this error message:This file does not have a program asssociated with it for preforming this action.Create an association in the set associations control panel.And cannot go any further.

What do I have to do to "Create an association in the set associations control panal"?

I'm having the same problem - need to create an association - but mine is trying to open a HELP file in Network Magic. Help works fine on my Vista laptop, but I get the error message to create file association when I try to open HELP on my desktop running XP.

That looks like a great reference site you listed, but I'm running Windows XP. That site is for Vista.

It is for Vista. Title is " Where did file associations go in Windows Vista?" and information pertains to Vista.

The only reason I posted it where I did was because as I searched for a previous thread on this problem, I found this one. I did however say in my post that I was running WINDOWS XP. Please excuse me - I will find a different forum to post this to.
