Dell C521 "BOOT MGR MISSING"

Long story short, my Dell C521 (AMD Dual Core 2GHz with 2GB of memory) was working fine as a dual boot Vista Home Premium and Ubuntu machine (although my daughter only used Ubuntu). One day it stopped booting.

I suspected the Ubuntu partition we created (originally thinking it was just a test) was out of room. So... I removed the HD and tested it off line. It was working fine, but as expected, the Ubuntu partition was too small.

In the process of trying to change the size of the partitions, I "un-mounted" the partition Vista was using.

After giving up on that approach, since I have all the data backed up, I decided just to reinstall Windows Vista using the media which came with the computer from Dell. Unfortunately, however, it will not boot from the DVD.

All I get is "BOOT MGR MISSING". Any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you setup boot order to boot from DVD drive? Try F12 when DELL logo appears so you can choose boot device.

Re: Dell C521 "BOOT MGR MISSING"

if you popped the cmos battery. the bios defaults to turning off the second sata port. check in bios if so, and change to enable. then you should be able to boot off the dvd. yes this is 10/10 in the annoying scale. :)
