I have an issue with vista can anyone help
I have a home built PC my specs are AMD X2 4000+ Ecs KA3 MVP extreme mobo 2GB Geil DDr2 800 ram Ati radeon X1950 pro 512 by triplex x2 in crossfire mode WDC WD2500JD 250 GBytes SATA MAXTOR STM3320820AS 320 GBytes SATA-II Als a Phillips sata DVDrw a 550w power supply cant remember the name but not cheap I moved all this into a new case recently except fo the 250gb hard drive which is a new one from another computer that had XP on it Now my issue is this sometimes if I power down the machine overnight when I come to fire it up in the morning all i get is that windows cannot start because the boot/bcd cannot be found and it cannot load the boot configuration sometimes it also loses the dvdrw drive like it has now the only way to get it back is to use the vista install disc and repair windows this seems a lil bit to much really any ideas or suggestions I have a feeling it may be my hard drive so I may need to transfer everything to the 250gb drive using ghost see if that cures it another issue with this before I moved the folder onto a new hard drive i had a folder called azureus and when I would download somethign to say c:\azureus when the boot failure happens this folder also disappeared any one got a clue on this one please |

Re: Vista sometimes loses the boot/bcd
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted. 3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next. 6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt. 7. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER. * If the Bootrec.exe tool runs successfully, it presents you with an installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes. A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully. * If the Bootrec.exe tool cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order in which they are presented. Press ENTER after each command. Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old Bootrec /rebuildbcd 8. Restart the computer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927391 |
