VISTA 64 BSOD Help!!

My system is a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 4GB DDR2 500GB NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit . I am having constant blue screen of deaths when gaming and now even when not. The BSOD contains the following messages SYSTEM PAGE FAULT NOT FOUND or IRL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.

This happens more so during gaming but now is occuring during browsing the net also. For example I was reading wikipedia and bam BSOD.

I ran memtest86 and the ram tested fine.

The BSOD seem to be increasing any help is appricated.

I have attached a sample of my many minidump files.

Re: VISTA 64 BSOD Help!!

I have noticed on my 9800 that the newest drivers didnt work and gave me the BSOD so i did a driver rollback and now works fine, so you could give the driver rollback see if the previous drivers ran smoother

Re: VISTA 64 BSOD Help!!

Hi -

The 4 dumps showed 2 bugchecks - 0x50 & 0xa -
Code:
BugCheck 50, {fffffa6081056885, 0, fffff80001e70280, 5}
Probably caused by : Pool_Corruption ( nt!ExFreePool+121 )

BugCheck A, {fffff81c01f91264, d, 0, fffff80001ed0cb1}
Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!EtwGetKernelTraceTimestamp+31 )

BugCheck A, {fffff81801f9f264, d, 0, fffff80001edecb1}
Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!EtwGetKernelTraceTimestamp+31 )

BugCheck A, {fffff81c01ff6264, d, 0, fffff80001f35cb1}
Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!EtwGetKernelTraceTimestamp+31 )

0x50 = PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA = invalid system memory was referenced

0xa = IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL = a MS or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory when it should not have (IRQL too high)

The 0x50 bugcheck usually spells H-A-R-D-W-A-R-E problem. Throw the 0xa into the equasion and it is more likely than not that the BSODs are related to bad harware - like RAM.

However, I do find it interesting that the 0xa BSODs have nearly identical memory addresses in parms 1 & 3. This in indicates to me that the issue may be with a rogue driver. Here are 4 drivers that I found in the dumps that should be looked into further -
Code:
fffffa60`00dc8000 fffffa60`00dd0000   AtiPcie  AtiPcie.sys  Mon Nov 06 11:59:30 2006 (454F69F2)

fffffa60`03e02000 fffffa60`03f06900   RTKVHD64 RTKVHD64.sys Mon Apr 23 06:13:10 2007 (462C86B6)

fffffa60`024f4000 fffffa60`02527000   Rtlh64   Rtlh64.sys   Tue Jan 20 01:49:47 2009 (4975740B)
AtiPcie.sys = ATI video - (Microsoft WHD driver)
RTKVHD64 = Realtek HDMI Audio
Rtlh64.sys = Realtek Ethernet NIC driver (seems to be OK - latest driver)

I would see if there are updates for them. I did not find evidence relating any of them to the BSODs.

To note - your NVIDIA drivers (the 4th driver(s)) -
Code:
fffffa60`02e0a000 fffffa60`03782e00   nvlddmkm nvlddmkm.sys Wed Feb 18 20:46:40 2009 (499CBA00)
fffffa60`03783000 fffffa60`03784400   nvBridge nvBridge.kmd Wed Feb 18 19:49:24 2009 (499CAC94)
The problem child here may be the ATI WHD LOGO'd driver. I found some others who thought so -

http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-card...re-info-2.html

I would suggest that you run the Driver Verifier and let it test your drivers.
START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe uptop under programs | Run as Administrator | type verifier & hit enter - the Verifier screen will appear | do the following:
Code:

1. Select 2nd option - Create custom settings (for code developers)
2. Select 2nd option - Select individual settings from a full list.
3. Check the boxes
• Special Pool • Pool Tracking • Force IRQL checking
4. Select last option - Select driver names from a list 5. Click on the Provider heading - sorts list by Provider 6. Check ALL boxes where Microsoft is not the Provider 7. Click on Finish 8. Re-boot
If the Driver Verifier (DV) finds a violation, it will result in a BSOD. You may have to boot into SAFEMODE or perform a system recovery to log back on. To see the status of Verifier - type verifier - select the last option on the first screen - "Display information about the currently verified drivers..". To turn Driver Verifier off - verifier /reset then re-boot.

If you get a BSOD, get the Verifier-enabled Vista dump file and attach to post.

Re: VISTA 64 BSOD Help!!

Hi -

The bugcheck on the latest was another 0xa. This was crash #2 at that time.

0xa (0xfffff818`01fad264, 0xd, 0x0, 0xfffff800`01eeccb1), p/c = NT Kernel
Dump type = VERIFIER_ENABLED_VISTA_MINIDUMP

While NT is given the blame in this crash, the Microsoft processor driver amdk8.sys is clearly visible in the stack text - (blue line = crash) -
Code:
STACK_TEXT: (edited)
00000`00000000 : nt!KeBugCheckEx
ff800`02e65b30 : nt!KiBugCheckDispatch+0x6e
ff800`02e65bd0 : nt!KiPageFault+0x20b
99 : nt!EtwGetKernelTraceTimestamp+0x31
00000`00000000 : nt!EtwGetInterruptTimeStamp+0x1f
ff800`01f90680 : nt!KiInterruptDispatchNoLock+0x13b
ff800`01e7aa9f : amdk8!C1Halt+0x2
ff800`01e749ed : amdk8!C1Idle+0x9
00000`00000000 : nt!PoIdle+0x148
00000`00000000 : nt!KiIdleLoop+0x21
00000`00000000 : nt!zzz_AsmCodeRange_End+0x4
The dump shows amdk8.sys as a Vista SP1 driver. I checked a system here and found the same dates, checksum
Code:
    Image name: amdk8.sys
    Timestamp:        Sat Jan 19 00:52:45 2008 (4791902D)
        Product version:  6.0.6001.18000
      FileDescription:  Processor Device Driver
Info on NT Kernel -
Code:
    Image name: ntkrnlmp.exe
    Timestamp:        Wed Sep 17 22:17:25 2008 (48D1BA35)
    File version:     6.0.6001.18145
    FileDescription:  NT Kernel & System
    LegalCopyright: © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
amdk8.sys is related to power management. More info from SysInternals -
http://forum.sysinternals.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=14388

Given that a 3rd party driver did not appear on the stack text, I believe these BSODs to be hardware related.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffff81801fad264, memory referenced
Arg2: 000000000000000d, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, bitfield :

	bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: fffff80001eeccb1, address which referenced memory
