Vista install hardrive problem

hello, first post here
Anyone who can help me will be my savior

Im doing a full re-installaion of vista home premium x64 and I ran into a problem. I rebooted my computer and booted the install cd. At the screen where you have to choose a hardrive to install vista on, I tried to reformat my one hardrive's one partition. I got an error saying that windows could not format a partition on disc 0. It said that but wiped my hardrive anyway. I tried to continue with the install but as soon as it tried to copy files onto the hardrive I got an error saying "windows could not format a partition on disc 0. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation." I have a hitachi Ultrastar A7K1000 model no HUA721010KLA330 SATA hardrive. I tried loading drivers at the hardrive select screen, using all the discs that came with my computer, but it said it cant find the drivers. The windows website says I need to provide the correct drivers for the hard disk controller. I dont have a disc with that hardrive driver and hitachi is not offering the drivers, saying most hardrives come with it. I now have a completely empty hardrive with which I cant install vista with.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Vista install hardrive problem

What I would do, is use killdisk, that will wipe the drive, free download
do a google. Once the drive is wiped, format and install the os. The
problem is that windows does a poor job cleaning the drive, to much
junk left behind.

Re: Vista install hardrive problem

tried killdisk, froze up, tried dban, error came up saying it was probably because my hardrive had bad sectors. I think I have to get a new hardrive...

Re: Vista install hardrive problem

Yup bad drive. To be sure go to maker of hdds website, download there
diagnostic utility, run it, that will confirm or deny that the hdd is bad.
