WIN DVD Maker will not burn a DVD
I have vista ultimate. Everytime I try to burn a DVD is stops working. My vista home addition on another laptop works just fine and have never had any problems out of that system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bob |

Re: WIN DVD Maker will not burn a DVD
I am very green at this computer stuff, so please bare with me; here are the specs on my laptop:
[1] Area-51® m9750 Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Ultimate with Service Pack 1 Notebook Tuners and Remotes: Without Media Center Remote Control or TV Tuner Video/Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® Series - 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8700M GT - Enables DirectX® 10 Graphics! Chassis: 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology - Stealth Black Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 1024MB System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 160GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection Optical Drives : 8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD±RW, CD-RW) w/ LightScribe Technology - View Demo Wireless Network Card: Internal Intel® PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g Mini-Card Sound Card : Internal High-Definition Audio with Surround Sound Mobile Essentials: Alienware® Orion Backpack Warranty: 1-Year AlienCare Onsite Service and 24/7 Toll-Free Phone Support AlienRespawn: AlienRespawn v2.0 Recovery DVD – Windows Vista® Edition Alienware Extras: Alienware® Mesh Cap Alienware Extras: Alienware® Mobile Binder Alienware Extras: Owner Identification Card Avatar: Alienhead 3D Window Style: Default Window Style Mouse Pointers: Standard Mouse Pointers Wallpaper: Alienhead 3D Power Plan: Standard Power Plan Automatic Updates: Automatic Updates On Sidebar Gadgets: Calendar I installed vista codecs V433, which allowed me to get video with the windows media player. The movies do not exceed the limit of the DVD, as I burned the same file with the laptop with Vista Home edition. I just tried to burn one that was 105 minutes and the DVD said 105 of 150 used. I can burn data files to a DVD if that may help. Win DVD Maker opens and allows you to add an AVI file, however when you click next to burn the file to a DVD the following message appears: Windows DVD Maker has stopped working. It also says it will give you a solution if one is found, which one is never found. Bobbie Last edited by Bobbie S; 02-26-2009 at 01:55 PM. Reason: update |

Re: WIN DVD Maker will not burn a DVD
When it says the program has stopped working it's a crash. Normally you should be able to find an event about the crash in the event viewer, but the Vista event viewer is such a piece of crap. there's thousands of events and it's unreadable. The event viewer is in control panel (classic view), administrative tools.
But if you can manage to find the event that lists the crash for vista dvd maker, it may list the module that caused the crash. For instance in XP in the application log, I'll get an event like this: Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.9.0.3306, faulting module xul.dll, version 1.9.0.3306, fault address 0x005ebeaf. In this case you see the program that crashed was firefox, and the module that caused the crash was xul.dll. In your case if you find out the crashing module was something like a codec dll, you could pinpoint it. On that note, if it turns out to be a codec dll, you could try uninstalling it, and using a different decoder. |

Re: WIN DVD Maker will not burn a DVD
The StackHash_1703 didn't give much of a hint. Google searches return all kinds of crashes. It may just indicate a type of error. I'm mostly stumped.
When running DVDMaker, does it fail on any kind of file you encode, or just specific ones? If so, what are the characteristics of the file(s) that fail (codec, container)? If you're unsure, try feeding them into mediainfo. |
