XPtoVista Help !!!!!!!!!!

Hello. I am trying to install all the files etc from my old Toshiba laptop XP on to my nice shinney new Toshiba laptop with Vista. I have tried two methods.

1 Transfering from the xp to an external hard drive using the xp transfer wizard. Although the files etc are being lifted to the HD can't install or not sure how to!!!

2 Transfering from the xp using the easy transfer system in built the new Tosh. Keep getting an error message "can't scan the drive on the xp"

Any suggestions please other than throwing the whole lot in a river.

Regards and thanks

Re: XPtoVista Help !!!!!!!!!!

Using the transfer wizard will not transfer all youir files firstly as the FAST wizard is different from XP to Vista and will not work
Your Easy transfer wizard will not work either as it relies on similar principles. XP & Vista are vastly different.
Manually copying files as Joeten said will work as this does not rely on system files.

Re: XPtoVista Help !!!!!!!!!!

I purchased a transfer software package called "Transfer my PC"s which works well. It copied across all my files but only some old email messages from my XP Outlook Express there are quite a few I would like. Is there a way of copying them from the XP OE to the Vista pc Can anybody assist me further please?
Thanks
