[SOLVED] Vista headache

Hi, I have just installed my vista ultimate over xp and it doesnt boot up. I get a message saying
Fallback 1, Find --set-root/bootmgr
invalid boot ini file

During boot up this message hangs for a couple of minutes then the screen just goes black and stays like it. The monitor light is still on but nothing happens.

Has anyone come across this b4 and do they have a resolution for my problem.

Re: Vista headache

I have just left the machine booting up and after the error msg i posted earlier the screen just goes black but green light on monitor is still lit. I decided to leave it booting up and when returned to the pc i got a message saying missing or corrupt file \windows\system32\config system

Then below that it tells me to run the repair option on the 1st screen.
At this point i cannot input r to run repair and it just hangs on this error screen.

I cant get windows to boot from cd, just get same message as i do when boot from hard drive

Re: Vista headache

What are you using for an install disc? . . Original or copy?

Usual suspects:

Scratched, dirty or copied install disc
failing DVD drive
Wrong setting in BIOS

Re: Vista headache

Try and re-install XP, if that works then it is more than likely the Vista Disk in knackered, if that still doesnt work, then you may have a faulty hard drive.
