Internet connection problems
Alright so I'm not very literate with computers so please stay with me.
I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1525 not even a month ago and every since I started using I've been having issues connecting to the internet. (My internet connection is fine, I still have my old computer and it connects without any issues) The connection duration is sporadic, sometime I can use if for a while without any problems but most of the time I have a very hard time loading sites and files. I can get to my homepage most of the time but then it wont navigate away to anything else. Sometime I can refresh and it it'll work, sometimes I close out firefox and sometimes I restart. Nothing is a definitive solution. I'm pretty convinced it's vista since a google search of 'vista internet problems' brings up a ton of hits. But I could be wrong. My OS is 32 bit Vista with service pack 1, it was installed by Dell. I am directly connected to the modem so this isn't a wireless issue. Software installed since I've gotten it: iTunes, Microsoft Office 2003, (Symantec) and spyware (spy bot search and destroy) protection, quicken basic 2003, and AIM all of which haven't caused me any problems on my previous computer. I run virus/spyware scans frequently and they don't find anything, i've also done it in safe mode. I called Dell and talked to a tech who recommended a system restore back to the beginning that only managed to lose everything i d/l since I got the computer. They insist on making me pay for software tech support to fix a problem on a brand new computer... :( My UAC and parental controls are off. So now what? Any help would be wonderful and greatly appreciated. Thank you!! |

Re: Internet connection problems
I was searching through similar threads and found a McAfee clean up which I did on my computer. It didn't have any noticeable effects. (I'll probably end up trying to submit this post several times since the net is being screwy as I type.)

Re: Internet connection problems
Have you looked at your router software settings to see if there is an issue there that could be stopping the internet from functioning properly?
I think the standard router address is 192.128.0.2 or something like that. Find out the name of your router and look online for the address. If you have a BT hub then i would suggest you phone bt for their advice, i used to have the problem where internet connection would keep dropping, i ended up having to get a different router and all worked brilliantly. |

Re: Internet connection problems
Well you said that you are directly connected to a modem so I do not think you have a router is this correct? Have you run SB S&D to do any scans? Have you updated your Firefox browser? Does the same thing happen in a different browser like Safari, or IE?

Re: Internet connection problems
Ok this is her friend posint on her behalf since she is still having problems.
She has no router, shes on cable. I helped her clear her winsock registry keys, and she still has a hard time with pages loading. They are loading slow, and most of the times they just dont load. |

Re: Internet connection problems
So I did a complete PC restore and I d/l my virus protection again. Dell tech support (I finally found one to cooperate with me) suggested I had 2 firewalls up and that was preventing me from using the internet. So far so good, hopefully things will continue to work out...
