Identifying video card

First off, I know little about computers and to let you all know this is my first one. I am also new to this site. I want to know what kind of video card I have. I know it's a 4800 Series because that's all it tells me. I don't have the box and it's custom made (details below).

Quad Core 2.8 Ghz
Vista 64x
4 Gigabytes of ram

Re: Identifying video card

Go to Start (Windows symbol bottom left of screen) and in the Start Search box type: devmgmt.msc
You can also access it by holding down Windows symbol on keyboard and pressing R key at the same time.
This will bring up the Device Manager dialogue box, click the + sign where it says Display Adapters and it will have the type of video card you have installed there. For further information (drivers etc.) R click the name and go to Properties.

Re: Identifying video card

It still only says "ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series" but I'd like to know what product of that series I have.

Re: Identifying video card

You could also open up your case and actually look at what it says.
Firstly unless you know what you're doing.. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING.
If you do make sure you touch the metal part of the case first and then don't shift you footing or seating. This is basically to not discharge any static electricity on the mother board
Ok, so your video card will look something like the ones in the link here: http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Then just look for large numbers. I don't know very much at all about ATI cards so I don't know what type of number it will be.

Re: Identifying video card

Welcome to TSF

Use Belarc Advisor, builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.
It should tell you what your video card is.

Re: Identifying video card

None of those programs told me anything new, only that I had a 4800 Series ATI GPU. I could try taking off the side panel but I'd have to do some more research first. Thanks for the support.

Re: Identifying video card

Doesnt the Device Manager tell you?

Quote:
*

Open the Control Panel window.
*

Double-click the System icon.
*

Click the Device Manager tab (if available).

– OR –

Click the Hardware tab then click Device Manager (if available).
*

Expand the Display Adapters branch.
*

Double-click the display adapter to display the Display Adapter properties dialog box.
*

Click the Driver tab.

The manufacturer and model of the video card are identified near the top of the tabbed window. The driver version is identified on the lower part of the tabbed window.
