Lock-ups in Vista AND XP

I have a problem with my computer locking up. It would lock up at completely random times, but there were also certain things I could do to make it lock up every time. For example, visiting certain web sites. Everything, even the mouse curser, would freeze. So I figured it was a Windows problem and upgraded to Vista Ultimate. I even did a clean install to make sure any traces of the problems would be wiped out. So after I had it installed and activated, I ran Windows Update and downloaded all the updates except the language packs. Then I downloaded Firefox. To test to see if the problems had been resolved, I went to one of the websites that always caused my PC to lock up, namely sixflags.com. Sure enough, as soon as the front page finished loading, the screen froze and I had to do a hard reboot. I was using Firefox 3.0.6. So then I tried loading it in IE 7.0.6001.18000. And again, I was forced to hard reboot. What could be causing these problems? The computer has yet to lock up for a random reason. So far.
