Restore Partition Problem - HP Notebook
I've had my HP dv9000 for just over a year, and it's due for an OS refresh (Vista). Being that it didn't come with recovery discs, I attempted to create them using the disc creation software that it came with.
Every time I attempt this, the machine locks up solid at about 9%. I've also found that running a disc check on that partition causes the same issue... HP tech support suggested I just attempt a recovery on reboot, as the data is most likely not corrupt. I'm not a fan of this, as it could leave me with a dead machine until I can order discs ($15). I could just order the discs, but I'd like to know if anyone else has run into this problem. thanks! |

Re: Restore Partition Problem - HP Notebook
Hi -
Check the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and WERCON (wercon.exe) for clues into the disc creation and chkdsk app hangs. The results of chkdsk can be found in the system log. A 5-month old HP dv7-1020us Vista x64 laptop here had problems with the recovery partition - it was corrupted and useless. I did burn the recovery DVDs when I first booted the system and have used them several times. For some reason they now too are useless. I installed Windows 7 x64 and formatted the recovery partition to free the space up. I don't know the reasons for your troubles with the recovery partition. Your best bet is to purchase the replacement HP OEM recovery DVDs and get rid of the recovery partition. HP does have a procedure for removal of d: which I find tantamount to formatting it via Vista Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc). Regards. . . jcgriff2 . |
